This is the second Paint Party Friday...be sure and scroll down to see all the other marvelous works of creativity everyone has provided. The button is on my side bar...just give it a click and you are there.
I painted this piece this week....was inspired by another artist on the internet..so I thought I would give it a try.
It is still on my gator board as you can see...I'm about done with this as I tend to really mess things up when I keep messing around with it. Anyway...this piece is a mixed media piece....watercolor and pastel.
When I began painting the first thing I tried my hand at was watercolor...incredibly hard (O: (O:
So...after that moved onto pastel...but sometimes I would pull out an old watercolor piece and apply little strokes of pastel over them. I liked the effect and still do it to this day.
This piece was a completely new experiment. First laid down my watercolor....followed by pastel in various areas..looked at it for a few days then went back in with more water ON THE PASTELS....Who knew you could apply water to pastels and they would do wonderful things. It was a real shock to me...I'll tell you that. Maybe you serious artists out there already knew this....but it was a discovery that really made my day even better than before. LOL LOL
Finally when the piece was totally dry...just hit little spots of light pastel when I thought appropriate.
Was such a great way to spend a day. Please do stop over and see all the other wonderful artists out there....and a big THANK YOU goes to the beautiful ladies who are hosting this weekly event.
I can't tell you how great it is to be painting again...this one has a few problems but it was such a peaceful way to spend the day.
Hugs to all,
Jo
Lovely painting. It is so loose and that's what I love about watercolor. I am still learning. Hope you come see my horses I painted for this weeks PPF. Would love your input.
ReplyDeleteYou are a beautiful artist. I really smiled when I saw this lovely piece.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great idea and is resultd is warm and impressive, I do not know you could mix the pastel and watercolor, the way of your shoes is beautiful. Greetings
ReplyDeleteI love it, Jo. Your experimenting paid off!

Oh, I love it! The colors are great and flowing. I love anything to do with ballet, so these are perfect : )
ReplyDeleteSo lovely! I danced ballet for 8 years and this brought me back for a moment -- not just because of the subject matter, but because the way you painted it is like a memory. Does that make sense? So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Paint Party Friday!
Charlie
Jo, it's beautiful. I've been reading a lot of books on watercolor and pastels and I did read that you can add water to the pastel to give them a softer look. I haven't tried this yet but think I may have to give it a go.
ReplyDeleteWow Jo....love this!!..I adore the poetic beauty and energy of it. I also love the LONG shape to it...a powerful piece visually.....wonderfully inspiring..shine on! So fun seeing what you create each week...happy Spring my friend!

I looks great! I just love it. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful piece! I love the colors. And I didn't know that you could add water to pastels. Thank you for sharing that! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it, fits in well with the movie Black Swan. I have never tried pastels but I also never thought of adding them to my watercolor either. I feel experiments in my future.
ReplyDeleteLovely Jo!
ReplyDeletei love this piece...on many levels. the colors and the mood - and the subject! The size and structure are great too! EXCELLENT!
ReplyDeleteWow! Combining mediums! Amazing. Never heard of it, but then, I'm no real painter. Just did this and that, years ago.
ReplyDeleteI love it that you are painting again. Perhaps, someday, I'll do so too. :-)
♥ Gentle hugs ♥
This is a great piece. I love the colours you've used and the impressionist feel to the ballet slippers. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is stunning! I love the vertical composition and the color scheme too! I have played with watercolor and pastel too, it's fun! For some reason, I always feel watercolors don't "pop" enough for me. Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong, but the pastels have made that happen. They are so vibrant. Great work, thanks for sharing it framed too! Also, thank you for stopping by to visit me. :-)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this piece, especially the background and the ribbons- beautiful! Also, I commented above on it framed before seeing it in it's original state- I really appreciate the way you cropped it- so much more interesting now!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF- a day late ;)
Stephanie
I love your ballet shoes! So beautiful. I don't know the first thing about painting or pastels or any of those things but I really am an admirer of those who are.
