BEING OLD.......DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE INVISIBLE.......

I AM A WOMAN OF A CERTAIN AGE
I'VE BEEN YOUNG.....I'M NOW OLD
AND I HAVE BEEN BETWIXT AND BETWEEN

PLEASE DON'T IGNORE ME BECAUSE
I AM NO LONGER
WRINKLE FREE
LESS THAN PERFECT
HARD OF HEARING
AND COMPOSED OF ACHES AND PAINS

I STILL HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER
THIS WORLD
AND THIS UNIVERSE
"A sage knows there is both the wisdom of the universe and of man ~~ and finds a balance between the two."

                                                                           Clara Holm, 101

While traveling we often meet the elderly....who appear alone and ignored....PLEASE RECOGNIZE THEM .... ALL IT TAKES IS A KIND HELLO AND SOME SIMPLE CONVERSATION... AND ALL OF US WILL BE THE BETTER FOR IT~~~~

Be blessed today dear friends,

  1. GREAT post!! I agree with you completely. As I age, I realize I am the same person inside, with the same hopes, and dreams, and hopefully, a better understanding of life! I will definitely take your words to heart, and although some of my hopes and dreams have changed now that I am older, I am much more of a realist in my thinking. I realize that the elderly are still very relevant, and have SO much to teach us! Thanks for the lovely post. Have a great day xoxo Christel

  3. Age is merely a state of being. The older I get, the more I Love old folks...I too will be old.. ahem...Older, and I hope to be more than a "Old Lady" to someone!!

  5. Hello Jo... I think this is my favorite post of yours yet! I NEVER call anyone old... I will always refer to them as sweet vintage... age is not a number of years, it is how you feel in your heart... I know young people that could actually be called "old"...because they are cold and heartless, with no care for anyone but themselves...and no respect for those of us who have lived and learned for alot longer... why is it that so many women search high and low for the oldest, chippyiest, shabbyiest (are these words?)most worn treasures with the most faded patina and scratches and dents and rust for their homes and collections, yet make themselves sick over a wrinkle or gray hair or laugh line... some of the most people women I have ever met are those who age gracefully, say NO to plastic surgery or artificial beauty...their inner beauty also speaks volumes to me... so sad our society treats anyone over 40 (probably less than that these days) as over the hill and worthless... I have a great book by Naomi Judd, one of my favorites, called "Aging Gratefully"... that is what I am doing... it sickens her too to see "vintage" ladies portrayed as mousey, frumpy women with nothing left to offer the world... I admire her for speaking out on this... well, as you can see, I could write a book about how I feel about all of this... I love that the Native Americans respect their "elders" and still seek their wisdom and advice and they are looked up to... wish more people would follow their ways... okay, I will get off my soapbox now... YOU look absolutely gorgeous my friend!... xoxo Julie Marie

I agree - we need to have patience with all ages! We either were young - or we will be old!

  15. This is such a beautiful post JUST LIKE the people that it represents. I LOVED my Grandmothers more than life and I have always loved the company of the elderly and their special tolerance of things that bother the younger generations. NOW that I'm entering those years I understand "The more relaxed age of taking time to smell the flowers"... Love it and LOVE THEM!!! I'm SO happy you chose to FOLLOW me! I'm your newest Follower also... Hugs to you, Donna

  16. This is an issue close to my heart!!! Our old people are important members of society! Full of wisdom, often lonely, years of memories etched in their beautiful faces.
I find they love to chat when you say hello, whether at the Post Office or grocery store, I can tell they are often starved for conversation.
What is a few minutes of your time, given with kindness, to a still valuable member of our society? A great post!

  18. JO IS THAT YOU IN THE LAST SHOT? YOU ARE GORGEOUS! WHat a smile dearest! And that little baby? Grandchild? Oh, I love the elderly, and I so enjoy having friends that are older than me; they are wise indeed. Lovely thoughts for the day my dear, Anita

  19. A wonderful post and great advice. So many of the elderly are along and a few words from someone means the world to them. A smile always is good too and costs nothing to pass one on to someone. Hugs

  20. So glad I checked out your blog...This post almost brought me to tears. I always said my age would never bother me, but turning 50 this year was tough! How ridiculous! Did anyone see the Oprah episode on women aging recently? Talking about we have come so far in science to stay healthy and live longer, but them we punish ourselves for actually doing it! Fighting wrinkles, gaining weight...we just don't allow it in our society! Crazy!
    Anyway...thanks for making me think!
Lovely blog; I will be back and thanks a million for following my blog!

  22. Ya know, just today I was out doing a few things, and I smiled at people that didn't smile back, I accidentally ran into people and when I said "sorry" they acted like I didn't exist. I came back to work feeling just awful, like "what am I invisible?" Reading this post helps me. Thanks, I hate feeling invisible.

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY......I'M GOING TO HAVE A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY MONTH!!!

I turn 67 today.....and actually I feel better as the years accumulate.  Since I've gotten older I actually have decided that I will celebrate each day during the month of October...just being grateful for being healthy and alive.   I hope each one of you who follow this little blog of mine celebrate each day along with me.... Here are some of the things I have planned for my birthday month: 1.  Listing our current home the end of the first week in November.  We are pretty excited to be moving into a little smaller spot as it means less work and maintenance.  We just want to be able to live more and work less.  Although we still have not found our new spot.....we know it is out there.   2.  Taking a 15 day cruise on the Rhine from Amsterdam to Budapest.  We will visit 5 countries along the way.  One of the stops will be in the place I was born....Nuremberg, Germany.  My  family  left Germany right after the war...when I was quite young.  Memories are almos

PUTTING ON MY GYPSY SHOES......................

Bo Bunny Paper Collection Well.......the coach is packed...the laundry done in the condo....and we will be on our way tomorrow. I often do feel like a gypsy moving from one spot to another....and each year my gratitude grows as I am able to continue this lifestyle. I truly would love to "do up" my coach in Gypsy Style...but alas....not too practical as things probably would be flying all over as we traveled down the road.  (O: But.....a girl can dream.....can't she? ~~~ My suitcase is packed with memories To be opened further down the road When my caravan must be halted The bag waits to be opened Stories to be told and shared Like the gypsy's of so long ago But for now....the wheels keep turning And my case grows larger still Waiting for the day..I must be stopped   And my heart, to the brim, will be filled Hugs from me to you, Jo Gypsy photos:  Electric Gipsyland on Flickr

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS

This is a picture of our little tree this year.  Each year our trees seem to be smaller, a function of our getting older and just wanting to deal with less stuff.  I'm sure a few of you feel them same.  Although it does seem to be a little weird that we want to deal with fewer Christmas decorations and give each other MORE STUFF in the way of presents under the tree.   Ahhh...being human is such a quandary sometimes!                                          MERRY CHRISTMAS                                                          Jo
