Our house is still on the market and unfortunately not much activity in our area...so, I have been busy doing little projects here.
This is a wonderful mirrored room dividing screen. In this pic the mirror is turned towards the wall.
As you can tell, the back was just plain painted hardwood. I wanted to be able to use both sides in a different way so I decided to gussy up the back side.
These are all bits and bobs of postcards and papers I have collected over the years. Many of the cards came from when we have traveled abroad. The ones above with the sailboats are from Portofino when we traveled Italy many years ago.
The Mists of Avalon is one of my favorite books and I loved the writing script so I included a page from there as well.
Several of these cards are from our recent trip down the Rhine and the Danube. The little boy and girl holding hands above is a valentines card from my wonderful husband . I wanted to make the back of this screen a collage of my life. As you can see, I'm not finished yet. Hopefully we will have a few more adventures and I will be able to add even more wonderful little treasurers to my screen.

Another little project....using an old drawer pull as a picture hanger.
This is a Moroccan drawer pull. I was only able to find one of these at the flea and didn't know how I would use it.
The art above is painted on a wooden box. It is by Maria Pace -Wynters, one of my favorite artists. It has never had a frame and looked a little plain to me so I decided to add a hanger.
Here is the finished piece. I know it looks a little like a purse (that just occurred to me) LOL LOL but I thought it needed a little something. Don't know if I am going to hang it or just let it sit on a table.
Sending hugs from my house to yours.

I so like what you did with the screen (and everything, really). "Mists of Avalon" is one of my favorite books, too!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with selling your home....hope a buyer comes soon. Nice project!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, The Mists of Avalon. My favorite. I read that book first, loved it so much that I ended up reading the whole series...first backwards then forwards. I've been thinking it is time to reread again. Good luck selling your home.

You did a wonderful job with your collage on the standing mirror screen, that is a family treasure now. I want to read Mists of Avalon thanks to you mentioning it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great sitting on the table actually. I really enjoyed Mists of Avalon also but it's been so long I can hardly remember what it is about.
ReplyDeleteI love "The Mists of Avalon" too! I read it 30 years ago when it first came out. It was a very unhappy period in my life and I just wanted to run away and become a Druid. I guess in a sense, I did exactly that, LOL, because look at me today!
ReplyDeleteThe screen is fabulous! I've wanted to do this same thing to cupboard drawers in the bedroom or bookshelves, but don't actually want to use the original postcards as I would like to keep them for the future, and if we move, some of these old furniture pieces wouldn't go with us. Great idea for the drawer pull on the canvas, too. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea Jo,
ReplyDeleteIts going to look fantastic when its finished. You will be able to sit and look at it and go back to all your traveling days.
The painting on the box with the handle looks great as it is. Just on the table.
happy weekend

Hi Jo! What a lovely and beautiful blog you have; it feels very warm and comforting here.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love and adore these things, and your screen reminds me of a wall I completed last summer on my stair landing. I collaged it with photos from magazines. I have collected enough face images to do a wall upstairs.
Your screen is just breathtaking! I LOVE it!!!
My husband is a postcard collector and I have not a chance of getting my hands on any of them.:(
Like you, I love pretty things and things that inspire me.
So glad you came by for a visit and started following me. I am following you back.:)
Wishing you a beautiful and blessed weekend.
