HOME FROM AMSTERDAM......................................

Arrived home at 9:00 p.m. last night.....and went right to sleep...

Just a little post today with a little trivia...
There are over 800,000 people living in the city of Amsterdam with 1.5 million bikes.  Everywhere you turn...bikes, bikes and more bikes.

I believe they are some of the healthiest people on the planet.  Sometimes I wish we in America would follow suit and rid ourselves of these gas guzzling cars and jump on our bikes!

Have a beautiful day....will post again as soon as I am recovered from my travels.

much love,

Jo

  1. Glad you enjoyed Amsterdam. I wish America was built in such a way that riding a bike was accessible. Unfortunately we didn't build up the same way as Europe, with everything centered around a town square setting, but hopefully the revitalization taking place all over America will help to change that.

  2. wow! so many more bikes than people? But yes! I too wish we would do the same here. That is one small reason I don't travel much anymore, it is so shameful to me to see how un enlightened Americans are, to see so many simple but grand improvements in other countries, so much we could be doing here that the EU countries have mastered and it hurts to come back here and get into cars again and have only large chain stores etc, and so much less in gardens and fresh foods. sigh!......but WELCOME BACK JO !

  4. Welcome home. New York is turning to a city of bikes now. The bike rental program has started out with a bang. Trouble is, the bike riders are more dangerous for pedestrians than the automobile drivers. Bike riders don''t believe they have to obey the traffic laws. I remember one time I was crossing at the light and one was bearing down on me, planning on going right through the light. When I stopped and stepped back he skidded on his breaks because he had veered to go behind me. Had the nerve to yell at me that I should have just kept on walking. Well, should have stopped for the light.

  5. Welcome home! A cycling culture would be better for us in terms of physical health and environmental health, it's true. Even financial health. But it's only truly feasible in small, compact cities/countries.

  7. Welcome home, Jo! I love Amsterdam, but my bike-boy, Rick, REALLY fell in love with it, with all those bikes. He probably puts less than 5,000 miles a year on his car unless he is driving for vacation distance (We're headed to Nashville for the trade show, then Mississippi to see his son next month; that'll do it1). The rest of the time, he rides the bike. (Or walks) Rick should have been a European -- he'd fit right in. Riding one kind of freaks me out, but I suspect if I lived in that environment, I'd suck it up and pedal to the medal! Hope your jet lag levels out soon. I'm very eager to see more of your photos and hear more of your trip!

  8. Oh, I'm looking forward to your posts on your trip! That's so great that these people believe in their heath and the health of their country! We should follow suit!

    Get some rest!

    XO,
    Jane

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY......I'M GOING TO HAVE A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY MONTH!!!

I turn 67 today.....and actually I feel better as the years accumulate.  Since I've gotten older I actually have decided that I will celebrate each day during the month of October...just being grateful for being healthy and alive.   I hope each one of you who follow this little blog of mine celebrate each day along with me.... Here are some of the things I have planned for my birthday month: 1.  Listing our current home the end of the first week in November.  We are pretty excited to be moving into a little smaller spot as it means less work and maintenance.  We just want to be able to live more and work less.  Although we still have not found our new spot.....we know it is out there.   2.  Taking a 15 day cruise on the Rhine from Amsterdam to Budapest.  We will visit 5 countries along the way.  One of the stops will be in the place I was born....Nuremberg, Germany.  My  family  left Germany right after the war...when I was quite young.  Memories are almos

PUTTING ON MY GYPSY SHOES......................

Bo Bunny Paper Collection Well.......the coach is packed...the laundry done in the condo....and we will be on our way tomorrow. I often do feel like a gypsy moving from one spot to another....and each year my gratitude grows as I am able to continue this lifestyle. I truly would love to "do up" my coach in Gypsy Style...but alas....not too practical as things probably would be flying all over as we traveled down the road.  (O: But.....a girl can dream.....can't she? ~~~ My suitcase is packed with memories To be opened further down the road When my caravan must be halted The bag waits to be opened Stories to be told and shared Like the gypsy's of so long ago But for now....the wheels keep turning And my case grows larger still Waiting for the day..I must be stopped   And my heart, to the brim, will be filled Hugs from me to you, Jo Gypsy photos:  Electric Gipsyland on Flickr

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS

This is a picture of our little tree this year.  Each year our trees seem to be smaller, a function of our getting older and just wanting to deal with less stuff.  I'm sure a few of you feel them same.  Although it does seem to be a little weird that we want to deal with fewer Christmas decorations and give each other MORE STUFF in the way of presents under the tree.   Ahhh...being human is such a quandary sometimes!                                          MERRY CHRISTMAS                                                          Jo
