BLOGGING FOR BEAUTY VERSUS BLOGGING FOR BUSINESS............

Like many of you, I have visited many, many blogs over the years....and I am always amazed and a little sad when a wonderful blog goes from being just pure beauty to look at to a business making proposition.

I know, in these difficult times, everyone must make a living...but it seems as though when a blog changes into a money making venture....something changes entirely with the feel of the blog.  It might be just me and how I view things...but I have always loved visiting the diverse nature of blogs out here and seeing what information or beauty they have to offer....I rarely would visit a blog to buy something. Once again...just me thinking out loud.

Just sharing a few shots of things I have stored in I-photo today....thought you might enjoy them.

Have a wonderful week dear friends.....where ever you are.

  1. Hi Jo... I agree with you totally... blogging has changed so since I started back in 2009... just not the same!... I am so happy I still have my original blogging buddies, like you!... I love to look at pretty things too, and it seems that nowadays there is so much competition and one~upmanship out there, I like the personal, day to day things that go on in ones life... their home, their kids, their gardens... their pets... I for one am not running for Blog of the Year or any other title... just sharing things that I love... I know there is always beauty at yours... xoxo Julie Marie

  2. I don't mind if a blogger is selling work that has been created by the blogger, but I'm not keen on ads on the side of blogs. I generally never click on those because I don't go to blogs to 'shop' as such.

  3. I agree with you, Jo! I love the blogs that I can visit because they are real people...and as long as their etsy (or whatever it is) is on the side I am okay with that. What I HATE are the blogs where the pop ups come up while you are trying to read and either want you to answer a survey or they want you to buy something. UGH. Thanks for the post-I am glad I am not alone with that feeling-xo Diana

  4. I definitely don't go to a blog to buy anything - unless like Sherry, it's to buy something the blogger created. But I really can't say I blog for beauty either - unless, of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Then maybe somebody might think a couple of my pictures are pretty. My favorite is Miss Sophie. The look in her eye just cracks me up.

  5. I think if you want to use a blog for selling then that is up to you, but do not mix it with a blog of beauty or interest. Viewers can look at what they like. I also do not like adverts on blogs, and with my slow connection it makes them very slow to connect. Another thing I do not like is music. I am happy to listen to music I like, but I object to having my ears suddenly blasted out by someone else's taste on their blogs. I just switch them straight off.
Have a great week and love your photos. Diane

  6. "I TOTALLY AGREE"!!! I have seen many blogs loose their personal touch by the ADDS and worst than that are POP-UPS!!! I agree I don't mind bloggers selling their own goodies. I welcome that BUT some have become too commercial and I find myself HUNTING for their post...Some are SO BAD, they are like a beautiful home that is grown up in weeds! I'm so happy to see "I am not alone"!
    Have a great week,
    Donna

  7. Beautiful post Jo! I blog for sheer love and passion..and yes many out there may have something wonderful to sell..sometimes it depends on the particular blog..how it comes across. I think it depends on the person..yes some are just out for a customer..and others are creating/selling out of a passion and the gifts from their soul..which is truly wonderful too. I think a separate blog is a great idea..
I have been asked many times if id be willing to sell my art or photos..and havent yet done so..but if i ever did...i think it would a be a link and that's it!I blog out of love and it brings me joy and that is my pure intention! but yes I totally know what you mean..i have encountered some bloggers the same as you.
    Oh my..such Gorgeous photos..super inspiring!
    hugs

  8. When you were in Montmartre, did you go to "Au Lapin Agile"? There's a play by that name by Steve Martin (yes, the comedian) featuring Picasso and Einstein, if memory serves correctly. It's about art vs science and takes place in that famous pub.

  9. Well, I've only been blogging a short while and I must agree with you. I love to see people's pictures and hear about their days, their hobbies, their families, children, pets.,etc. I guess that's because that's what I like to blog about. I loved all your pictures, but I must say, since I'm such a doggie person, your Sophie's picture was my favorite.

  10. I love the look of your blog and enjoy visiting here. I feel welcome. I also do not like it when someone who I have been following suddenly starts selling items on their blog. Yes, it is their blog, but it can be disappointing for one who has been following for awhile and looks forward to a visit. The best way to handle it would be to start a new blog.

Miss Sophie sure does look like a princess. From the look on her face, you have to wonder what's going through her mind.

  11. I agree that I don't enjoy blots that are make to sell things. For some people that be what they want, but as for me I love the pictures and stories and glimpses into others lives. Have a good day.

  12. Debra.....I was in France in 2007. We stayed in Paris for four days and then took a cruise down the Seine.
Stopped at various artist's colonies along the way and made a stop at Normandy also. It was a cruise and a dream of a lifetime....I hope to return to France another time and do Southern France this time.

  13. I visit blogs because I like to be inspired or develop a friendship.
Once all the advertising etc starts, I don't go there anymore.

  14. I prefer to blog simply for inspiration and the friendships developed along the way. I like blogs that are simple and honest in their crafts and daily life. I guess everyone blogs for different reasons. The good news is we can choose who we want to visit. Have a wonderful week. Tammy

  15. Jo, I started following you because I felt you were REAL and I felt a connection to you right away...and I love your pictures and stories...that look on Sophie's face is classic. about BLOGS: when I started in 2009 I was hooked on sights where crafters were scrapbooking and making cards...one lady in particular made the most wonderful, shabby, chic cards imaginable...I adored her blog...within a year, her whole style changed - WHY? because she was offered a 'designer spot' for a company selling products...she now uses their product exclusively and I don't recognize her cards...1/2 the content on the post is what products she used and links to direct you to buy from the company...if that's the price of getting free products I'm not going there...hate pop ups, too :D just my opinion rambling on here :D

  16. I don't ever shop on a blog. I like to read them for enjoyment--and gorgeous pictures!

Your flowers make me yearn for Spring--which is coming early to Iowa. We're going to be in the 70's today. Crazy!

  17. This is my first visit to your blog......WHERE HAVE I BEEN!!!!!!!!
I just want to say.....pretend nothing.....I LOVE your chandy!!!
I can't wait to poke around here and see what other fun things I can find.

  18. I have shopped on a blog before. It doesn't bother me if someone has an ETSY store on their sidebar as long as the blog and the blogger are 'real'. 'Nuff said!!!

Your pictures take my breath away Miss Jo!

God bless ya and have yourself a sunshiny kinda day!!! :o)

  19. I was blogging for months before I even knew that you could make money with a blog! Out of the loop for sure! Anyway, I know people blog for many different reasons. I'm so fortunate that I don't need extra income right now, so I have the luxury of blogging purely for the pleasure it brings me. Like visiting your blog and seeing your beautiful photos!

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY......I'M GOING TO HAVE A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY MONTH!!!

I turn 67 today.....and actually I feel better as the years accumulate.  Since I've gotten older I actually have decided that I will celebrate each day during the month of October...just being grateful for being healthy and alive.   I hope each one of you who follow this little blog of mine celebrate each day along with me.... Here are some of the things I have planned for my birthday month: 1.  Listing our current home the end of the first week in November.  We are pretty excited to be moving into a little smaller spot as it means less work and maintenance.  We just want to be able to live more and work less.  Although we still have not found our new spot.....we know it is out there.   2.  Taking a 15 day cruise on the Rhine from Amsterdam to Budapest.  We will visit 5 countries along the way.  One of the stops will be in the place I was born....Nuremberg, Germany.  My  family  left Germany right after the war...when I was quite young.  Memories are almos

PUTTING ON MY GYPSY SHOES......................

Bo Bunny Paper Collection Well.......the coach is packed...the laundry done in the condo....and we will be on our way tomorrow. I often do feel like a gypsy moving from one spot to another....and each year my gratitude grows as I am able to continue this lifestyle. I truly would love to "do up" my coach in Gypsy Style...but alas....not too practical as things probably would be flying all over as we traveled down the road.  (O: But.....a girl can dream.....can't she? ~~~ My suitcase is packed with memories To be opened further down the road When my caravan must be halted The bag waits to be opened Stories to be told and shared Like the gypsy's of so long ago But for now....the wheels keep turning And my case grows larger still Waiting for the day..I must be stopped   And my heart, to the brim, will be filled Hugs from me to you, Jo Gypsy photos:  Electric Gipsyland on Flickr

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS

This is a picture of our little tree this year.  Each year our trees seem to be smaller, a function of our getting older and just wanting to deal with less stuff.  I'm sure a few of you feel them same.  Although it does seem to be a little weird that we want to deal with fewer Christmas decorations and give each other MORE STUFF in the way of presents under the tree.   Ahhh...being human is such a quandary sometimes!                                          MERRY CHRISTMAS                                                          Jo
