SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH BEAUTY........................

~"The human soul needs actual beauty more than bread."~
David Herbert Laurence

I believe we all love beautiful things...they don't have to be expensive...but they must be something we find pleasing to our eye.

I know in these troubled times you might think....how shallow can this lady be.....posting about beautiful things...and I do know that many people are living on reduced incomes or are out of work at the current time .  That being said....I'm a Libra.....and of all the signs in the zodiac.....Libra's  MUST be surrounded with beauty....lest they wither and die, and having beauty around you does not need to be costly.  It just takes a little effort and desire on your part.

I had an astrological chart done many moons ago. At the time I was working outside the home in the corporate world.....the first thing the astrologer keyed in on was my being in the WRONG occupation.  She told me I should be working in a flower shop or in an art gallery.  Now I had a family to help support so I couldn't go out a quit my job....but I have always remembered her reading and have tried to incorporate what she told me into my daily life.

I use a pretty coffee cup....and set a pretty table....every meal, or at least I try.

I cover my tea pot with a pretty tea cozy.

I always try to have fresh flowers in the house.....sometimes from my garden...sometimes purchased....at a reasonable price.

I use my candles when I take a bath....what are we saving them for?? LOL

I also use my bath oil and bubble bath...it is there to be used and enjoyed.  We are all so very worth it.

And last....but not least......I try to give myself the time to be creative....and it really doesn't  matter how you choose to express yourself......

Just take the time to make something special and beautiful to your eye.

~~REMEMBER~~

Of any kind!!!!

"Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything  beautiful~~for beauty is God's handwriting."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson~

Here's to ALL the beauty in blogland.

  5. This reminds me of the old labour/union song "Bread and Roses" where women demand both bread (the necessities of life) and roses (beauty) as all women's birthright.

  6. What inspiring words to live by. You do seem to enjoy those beautiful things you surround yourself with. I can't remember the last time I soaked in a tub with a candle or nice scents in it. I really need to do that. I do surround myself with my flowers outside and spend a lot of time with them. Thanks for reminding me there are many more things that are special to me that I need to do for myself. Have a wonderful week.

  8. In times like these we need, all the more, to create art and surround ourselves with beauty. We have the ability to create an atmosphere of peace and beauty. and....you are right it doesn't have to be costly.

    Thank you for sharing beauty.

  9. Lovely post Jo! So often in a busy day we forget to stop and look, really look at all the beauty God has surrounded us with. We focus on problems and challenges and miss the joyful and sublime.
    Thanks for the wake-up!

  12. You are a very wise soul to follow your heart. Beauty is to be shared and put into practice in our daily lives. and anyway...i love a good bath with bath salts and candles, not to mention a glass of wine...

  15. Oh Jo, what an amazing post and your photos are so stunning. I could not agree more. I believe that especially when times are tough, one needs as much beauty surrounding them as possible as a reminder that while the social world is a part of our lives, feeding our souls is THE MAIN priority. I know you have certainly lifted me today with all of this beauty and peaceful surroundings. You adorable little Libra!

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY......I'M GOING TO HAVE A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY MONTH!!!

I turn 67 today.....and actually I feel better as the years accumulate.  Since I've gotten older I actually have decided that I will celebrate each day during the month of October...just being grateful for being healthy and alive.   I hope each one of you who follow this little blog of mine celebrate each day along with me.... Here are some of the things I have planned for my birthday month: 1.  Listing our current home the end of the first week in November.  We are pretty excited to be moving into a little smaller spot as it means less work and maintenance.  We just want to be able to live more and work less.  Although we still have not found our new spot.....we know it is out there.   2.  Taking a 15 day cruise on the Rhine from Amsterdam to Budapest.  We will visit 5 countries along the way.  One of the stops will be in the place I was born....Nuremberg, Germany.  My  family  left Germany right after the war...when I was quite young.  Memories are almos

PUTTING ON MY GYPSY SHOES......................

Bo Bunny Paper Collection Well.......the coach is packed...the laundry done in the condo....and we will be on our way tomorrow. I often do feel like a gypsy moving from one spot to another....and each year my gratitude grows as I am able to continue this lifestyle. I truly would love to "do up" my coach in Gypsy Style...but alas....not too practical as things probably would be flying all over as we traveled down the road.  (O: But.....a girl can dream.....can't she? ~~~ My suitcase is packed with memories To be opened further down the road When my caravan must be halted The bag waits to be opened Stories to be told and shared Like the gypsy's of so long ago But for now....the wheels keep turning And my case grows larger still Waiting for the day..I must be stopped   And my heart, to the brim, will be filled Hugs from me to you, Jo Gypsy photos:  Electric Gipsyland on Flickr

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS

This is a picture of our little tree this year.  Each year our trees seem to be smaller, a function of our getting older and just wanting to deal with less stuff.  I'm sure a few of you feel them same.  Although it does seem to be a little weird that we want to deal with fewer Christmas decorations and give each other MORE STUFF in the way of presents under the tree.   Ahhh...being human is such a quandary sometimes!                                          MERRY CHRISTMAS                                                          Jo
